I think Georgia Tech is one of the most underrated teams in the country heading into the season, and they’ll get a chance to prove it right away with a trip to Colorado in week one. The Yellow Jackets have risen to be a solid program again after handing the keys to head coach Brent Key in 2023 (pun intended). And with a solid group of returners, Georgia Tech is poised to have a big 2025 campaign and possibly contend for an ACC title.
Quarterback Haynes King is back for his third season since transferring from Texas A&M to lead the Yellow Jacket offense, and that is probably the biggest reason I think they’ll be a top 25 team this fall. When healthy in 2024, King was a dynamic playmaker with both his arm and legs, and put the team on his back multiple times to win games. Georgia Tech’s run game should be as lethal as it has been under Key, and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner brought in a couple receivers in from FIU to re-load King’s arsenal of weapons. The offensive line will need to prove themselves though to be confident in a step forward in 2025.
Most of the questions in Atlanta come on the defensive end, where they’ll have a new coordinator and only four returning starters from the worse unit of the two a year ago. The good news for the Jackets is they get their leading tackler and anchor of the defense in linebacker Kyle Efford back. If new defensive coordinator Blake Gideon and the pieces around Efford can come together and improve the defense from a year ago, Georgia Tech could be an ACC and playoff contender in 2025.
